Dangerous surf incoming!
This is the island-wide e-mail that just got sent out:

...A HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR EAST FACING REEFS...
...SATELLITE-DERIVED SEA HEIGHTS AND COMPUTER MODEL GUIDANCE INDICATE LARGE EAST SWELL WILL DEVELOP TODAY TO CAUSE HAZARDOUS SURF ON EAST FACING REEFS OF KWAJALEIN ATOLL. SURF OF 12 TO 13 FEET WILL PERSIST TONIGHT THRU SUN FEB 5 2012. A TRADE WIND SURGE TO 25KTS IS EXPECTED WITH THIS EVENT...SURF WILL OCCASIONALLY BE AS HIGH AS 25 FEET (1 IN 100 WAVES).
AVOID VENTURING NEAR EXPOSED REEFS AND BEACHES...ESPECIALLY ALONG EAST FACING SHORES...AS RIP CURRENTS WILL BE LIFE THREATENING. ISLANDS AFFECTED INCLUDE KWAJALEIN, LITTLE BUSTARD, BIG BUSTARD, EBEYE-GUEGEEGUE, BIGEJ, MECK, KWADACK, OMELEK, GELLINAM,GAGAN-ENNUBIRR-NAMUR.
BIGEJ AND ENIWETAK PASSES WILL SEE DANGEROUS WAVE ACTION WITH WAVES OF 10 FEET AND OCCASIONALLY 17 FEET.
AT HIGH TIDE, WATER LEVELS MAY OVERTOP SHORE IN LOW-LYING AREAS.

"Everyone who can, take off work early Friday and Saturday, meet up at the Small Boat Marina with your boards. We're going to rent some boats and head up to Bigej Pass"

Turtle Wrestling
I now have a new job I can add to my list of work experience: Professional Sea Turtle Wrangler.
Once a year, we need to pull our two pet sea turtles, Speedo and Big Guy, out of their pond for their yearly medical checkup, and to give them a scrub-down. This requires a couple of people to get into their pond and physically grab them, which is MUCH harder then you'd think. They can move quickly when they want to!

Night Diving
I know that for a lot of people, swimming around in the ocean at night is one of the scariest things they can imagine, but it's one of the coolest things one can do here. Unfortunetly, the camera isn't nearly sensitive enough to capture the luminecant plankton that you can see with all the dive lights shut off.
